Summer Stripes

Stripes are found everywhere in the natural world, and are one of the most ancient patterns first made by humans. They often serve as camouflage in nature, evolving to protect the creatures, plants and fungi that carry them and to ward off predators. In the medieval ages stripes were seen as the 'devils cloth' and were relegated to be worn by prostitutes, prisoners, jesters and outcasts. The stripes created here were born out of an experiment, and a continued investigation into the possibilities of marbling, color interaction, form and flow.

This collection is made entirely from one-of-a-kind hand marbled silks produced in the Myfawnwy studio. Each piece was then cut, assembled and sewn into garments with love and care by a small all women team in NYC.

Modeled by Mamiko Nakatsugawa, Eliza Brennessel, Sam Fisher, and Skyler Guidera. Creative direction by Myfawnwy.

Photographed by Frankie Galland on medium format and 35mm film. Shot on location in Highland Park, Queens, NY in early June 2023.

Many thanks to Sandra for her expertise and precision, and to my assistants on this project, Perry, Jackie, and Jesse.
